7th Pay Commission Information | 7th Pay Commission Information Brochure for Military Personnel

7th Pay Commission Information Brochure for Military Personnel

“Info Brochure 7th Central Pay Commission Award” e-book will be very useful for Military Personnel, this guide contains all the information related to 7th Pay Commission benefits, Pay, Allowances, Pension & other benefits.

Information Brochure released by Mr. Ashwani Kumar, Lt Gen, Adjutant General.

1. 7th Central Pay Commission award, in many ways, has been a revolutionary due to the active involvement of the environment. This was for the first time when we have transited from Pay Bands to a Pay Matrix system. The method of awarding increments has been modified to a pre calculated stage system in the Defence Pay Matrix, thereby ensuring uniformity. Several old allowances have been merged, some allowances abolished and new ones have been granted.

2. Aim is to provide a ready reckoner to ensure that full benefits of Pay Commission Award are exploited by the environment. It will serve as a guideline for the men and women in uniform to make themselves aware of the 7th CPC benefits and entitlements.

3. I compliment DG (MP&PS), PS Dte and the 7th Army Pay Commission Cell (APCC) team for their endeavour in bringing out this Information Brochure and hope that it will meet the desired objective.

Health tips | Can an iron deficiency cause hair loss?

Iron deficiency anemia is a condition that occurs when a person does not have enough iron in their body, or their body cannot use iron properly. While severe iron deficiency anemia can cause symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and chest pain, some people also experience hair loss.

Doctors are not sure why some people who experience hair loss have low iron stores. They do know, however, that iron is an essential component in an enzyme called ribonucleotide reductase that helps cell growth.

According to some research, hair follicle cells can be particularly sensitive to decreasing levels of iron and may not be able to grow new cells as effectively when iron stores are low.

In this article, learn about the link between iron deficiency anemia and hair loss, as well as the treatment options for each.

Iron deficiency anemia symptoms

Hair loss is not a typical symptom of iron deficiency anemia.

Iron plays a crucial role in making hemoglobin, a compound that carries oxygen to cells, which is essential for the body to function.

Symptoms of iron deficiency anemia include:
  • brittle nails
  • extreme fatigue or lack of energy
  • fast heartbeat
  • pale skin
  • shortness of breath
  • sore tongue

While hair loss is not a typical symptom of iron deficiency anemia, some people might experience it.

If a person suspects their iron levels may be low, they should visit a doctor who can perform blood tests to determine if they are anemic.

Iron deficiency anemia and hair loss

Most of the studies related to iron deficiency anemia and hair loss look at hair loss in women. Female pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia, is the most commonTrusted Source hair loss type in women.

Female pattern hair loss usually refers to thinning hair in the middle portion of the scalp. People with this hair loss pattern may also have thinning or receding hair on the hairline along their forehead.

Research has determined that there is not enough evidence to say for sure that iron deficiency anemia can cause hair loss in men or women. While some studies have found that people experiencing hair loss were deficient in iron, there is little evidence to suggest that an iron deficiency is the cause.

However, the research does suggest that iron deficiency hair loss seems to be related to hair loss that does not scar the hair follicles. This is promising for regrowth because it means that the follicles are not severely damaged and may be able to grow hair again.

Treatment

People experiencing both hair loss and an iron deficiency might need to treat both separately.

Treating hair loss

Doctors can recommend many treatments to people experiencing hair loss, including:
  • Minoxidil: This medication is available as a topical solution. Scientists think that this medication allows hair to stay in the growth phase for longer.
  • 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors: Medications such as finasteride (Proscar) are 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. These drugs help increase the levels of enzymes that promote hair growth.
  • Surgical techniques: If other treatments do not work, surgery, such as hair transplantation, can help restore a person’s hair.

Doctors are continually researching new techniques to restore hair growth. One example is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment. This involves separating the platelets from a sample of a person’s blood using a specialized machine, then injecting these platelets into areas of the scalp affected by hair loss.

Doctors believe the platelets contain a significant amount of growth factors, which can help stimulate hair growth. ResearchTrusted Source in one study found that women who received PRP injections saw increases in the density and thickness of their hair after 6 months. However, more studies need be done to prove PRP’s effectiveness.

Treating iron deficiency anemia
Iron supplements may be recommended as a treatment for iron deficiency anemia.

Treatments for iron deficiency anemia include:

  • Iron supplements: A doctor may recommend a person takes iron supplements daily to help their body restore iron over time. A person should always talk to their doctor before taking iron supplements because they can cause severe side effects. A person may have to take iron supplements for 3 to 6 months before their iron stores reach normal levels.
  • Iron injections: A doctor may recommend iron injections to raise iron levels faster. People who are severely anemic may also require intravenous iron or iron injections. People who cannot absorb iron properly, such as those with Crohn’s disease, may also benefit from injections.
  • Dietary changes: Consuming more dietary iron can also help increase levels. Iron-rich foods include red meat, chicken, fish, leafy green vegetables, and legumes. Food manufacturers may also add iron to certain foods, such as cereal.

Regrowth

Research states that there is not enough evidence available to suggest that taking iron supplements will help a person with hair loss grow new hair if they have iron-deficiency anemia.

However, there are many other hair regrowth treatments available. People with hair loss should talk to their doctor about treatment options.

If a person has low iron stores, increasing their iron intake will likely help them to feel better overall.

Outlook

Doctors are still defining the relationship between iron deficiency anemia and hair loss. This is because hair loss can have multiple contributing factors, including genetics.

However, doctors do know that iron deficiency can play a role because many people experiencing hair loss have lower iron stores than those who are not losing their hair.

Ideally, by increasing their iron stores, a person may see an improvement in hair growth as well as any symptoms of iron deficiency anemia.

Brids Mimicry | Which Birds Are The Amazing Mimics?

Several birds could make the claim to be the world’s best mimic. In North America master mimics include mockingbirds, thrashers, and catbirds; all of which are in the family Mimidae, so named because of this family’s skill at mimicking other species. The Brown Thrasher can sing up to 2,000 different songs and may be the champion mimic in North America. European Starlings are also accomplished mimics, just like their relatives the mynas, and are known to include imitations of other birds, but also just about anything else, including motorcycles and tea kettles. Blue Jays can mimic several species of hawks.

Parrots are especially adept at mimicking sounds and human language. Unlike songbirds, which produce sounds by vibrating membranes in two different syrinxes, parrots have only one syrinx, located at the bottom of the windpipe. This is somewhat similar to humans, who also have only one sound-producing organ, the larynx. Parrots also have long, muscular tongues that may be used in modifying sounds. Parrots also have forebrain areas involved in vocal learning and control of vocalization that are not found in other birds.

African Gray Parrots are one of the most accomplished mimics. A bird named “Prudle”, a male African gray, is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as having a vocabulary of more than 1,000 words. The Animal Planet network featured an African Gray Parrot that lives up to his name—Einstein.

Health Hot Water | What Are the Benefits of Drinking Hot Water?

Drinking water, hot or cold, keeps your body healthy and hydrated.

Some people claim that hot water specifically can help improve digestion, relieve congestion, and even promote relaxation, compared with drinking cold water.

Most health benefits of hot water are based on anecdotal reports, as there’s little scientific research in this area. That said, many people feel benefits from this remedy, especially first thing in the morning or right before bed.

When drinking hot beverages, researchTrusted Source recommends an optimal temperature of between 130 and 160°F (54 and 71°C). Temperatures above this can cause burns or scalds.

For an extra health boost and some vitamin C, try adding a twist of lemon to hot water to make lemon water.

This article looks at 10 ways that drinking hot water may benefit you.

1. May relieve nasal congestion

A cup of hot water creates steam. Holding a cup of hot water and taking a deep inhale of this gentle vapor may help loosen clogged sinuses and even relieve a sinus headache.

Since you have mucous membranes throughout your sinuses and throat, drinking hot water may help warm that area and soothe a sore throat caused by mucus buildup.

According to an older 2008 studyTrusted Source, a hot drink, such as tea, provided quick, lasting relief from a runny nose, coughing, sore throat, and tiredness. The hot drink was more effective than the same drink at room temperature.

2. May aid digestion

Drinking water helps to keep the digestive system moving. As the water moves through your stomach and intestines, the body is better able to eliminate waste.

Some believe that drinking hot water is especially effective for activating the digestive system.

The theory is that hot water can also dissolve and dissipate the food you’ve eaten that your body might have had trouble digesting.

More research is needed to prove this benefit, though a 2016 studyTrusted Source showed that warm water may have favorable effects on intestinal movements and gas expulsion after surgery.

In the meantime, if you feel like drinking hot water helps aid your digestion, there is no harm in using this as a remedy.

3. May improve central nervous system function

Not getting enough water, hot or cold, can have negative effects on your nervous system functioning, ultimately affecting mood and brain function.

Research from 2019Trusted Source has shown that drinking water can improve central nervous system activity, as well as mood.

This research showed that drinking water boosted participants’ brain activity during demanding activities and also reduced their self-reported anxiety.

4. May help relieve constipation

Dehydration is a common cause of constipation. In many cases, drinking water is an effective way to relieve and prevent constipation. Staying hydrated helps soften stool and makes it easier to pass.

Drinking hot water regularly may help keep your bowel movements regular.

5. Keeps you hydrated

Although some evidenceTrusted Source shows that cool water is best for rehydration, drinking water at any temperature will help keep you hydrated

The Institute of Medicine recommendsTrusted Source that women get 78 ounces (2.3 liters) of water each day and that men get 112 ounces (3.3 liters) daily. Those figures include water from food like fruits, veggies, and anything that melts.

You also need much more water if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, engaging in strenuous activity, or working in a hot environment.

Try starting the day with a serving of hot water and ending it with another. Your body needs water to perform basically every essential function, so the value of that can’t be overstated.

How much water should you drink each day? Read more here.

6. Reduces shivering in the cold

A 2017 studyTrusted Source found that while the body’s natural response in cold conditions is to shiver, drinking warm fluids can help reduce shivering.

Subjects wore suits circulated with water that was a bit above freezing, then drank water at a variety of temperatures, including up to 126°F (52°C).

Researchers found that drinking the hot water quickly helped the subjects put less work into maintaining their body temperature. That could be handy, the study notes, for people working or exercising in cold conditions.

7. Improves circulation

Healthy blood flow affects everything from your blood pressure to your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Taking a warm bath helps your circulatory organs — your arteries and veins — expand and carry blood more effectively throughout your body.

Drinking hot water may have a similar effect. However, there’s little research that this is effective.

As a bonus, warmth from drinking hot water or bathing at nighttime may help relax you and prepare you for restful sleep.

8. May decrease stress levels

Since drinking hot water helps improve central nervous system functions, you might end up feeling less anxious if you drink it.

According to a 2014 studyTrusted Source, drinking less water resulted in reduced feelings of calmness, satisfaction, and positive emotions.

Staying hydrated may therefore improve your mood and relaxation levels.

9. May help the body’s detoxification systems

While there’s no definitive evidence hot water has a specific benefit in this regard, a 2020 studyTrusted Source found drinking more water can help protect the kidneys while diluting waste materials in the blood.

And according to the Arthritis Foundation, drinking water is important for flushing out your body. It can also help fight inflammation, keep the joints well lubricated, and prevent gout.

10. May help relieve symptoms of achalasia

Achalasia is a condition during which your esophagus has trouble moving food down into your stomach.

People with achalasia have trouble swallowing. They may feel as though foods get stuck in their esophagus instead of moving to the stomach. This is called dysphagia.

Researchers aren’t sure why, but an older 2012 studyTrusted Source found drinking warm water may help people with achalasia digest more comfortably.

What are the risks?

Drinking water that’s too hot can damage the tissue in your esophagus, burn your taste buds, and scald your tongue. Be very careful when drinking hot water. Drinking cool, not hot, water is best for rehydration

Generally, though, drinking hot water has no harmful effects and is safe to use as a remedy.

The bottom line

While there’s little direct research into the benefits of hot versus cold water, drinking hot water is considered safe, and can be a good way to make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day.

Getting into the habit of drinking hot water is easy. Try starting your day with a cup of boiled water, left to cool for a while. If you’re not a tea or coffee drinker, try hot water with lemon.

Add a light session of stretching to your routine, and you’ll feel more energized and better equipped to tackle the day.

If the taste of warm water doesn’t appeal to you, add a twist of citrus — like lemon or lime — to the beverage before you drink it.

Drinking warm water before bed is a great way to wind down after a busy day. Knowing about the health benefits will have you sleeping soundly.

A bird with a mustache | Scientific Name: Larosterna inca | Habitat: Pacific coast from Peru to Chile; breeds on inshore islands and coastal cliffs

This striking bird occupies part of the same habitat ruled by the ancient Inca Empire in South America. Inca Terns are best known by their dashing white mustaches, which are found on both male and female birds.

The species is found only near the cold waters of the Humboldt Current, where the birds feed on anchovies and other small fish. Like Least Terns, Inca Terns feed by plunge diving and surface dipping. The birds also scavenge scraps from sea lions, dolphins, and fishing boats. Declining fish stocks are one of the reasons for this species' population decline.

Nesting by the Thousands

It's a gregarious species, nesting in colonies of several thousand birds. The recording at the top of this page, from Pantanos de Villa Wildlife Refuge outside of Lima, Peru, gives an idea of what these noisy colonies are like.

The Inca Tern's elaborate courtship includes a "high flight," with the male quickly ascending to several hundred feet, pursued by the female. Pairs choose a nest site in cliff hollows or fissures—sometimes even in the old nest burrow of a Humboldt Penguin. They often return to the same nest site for several years in a row, and both parents incubate and care for the chicks.

Coastal Peru is a spectacular place to see vast numbers of Inca Terns and other seabirds such as Peruvian Boobies and Guanay Cormorants," said ABC Vice President Mike Parr.

"It's hard to imagine that there were once even more seabirds using these waters. The double-whammy of over-fishing and excessive guano harvest—which eliminates nest sites—has been compounded by the effects of the El Niño cycle, which affects fish stocks."

From Threats to Protection

Rats, cats, and other introduced predators on some islands also affect nesting and breeding success. Islands are particularly susceptible to the effects of invasive species; for example, free-roaming cats have contributed to the extinction of 33 species on islands.

Following years of lobbying by in-country NGOs, the Peruvian government created the Guano Islands and Capes National Reserve in 2009, protecting Inca Tern as well as sea lion breeding colonies on 28 guano islands and cliffs along the coastline.

Miraculous | Story Of Poor Dog Falling Into Canal, Fighting For Life Until Dolphins Save Him False

Did a dog fall into a canal and almost drown before a dolphin rescued it, as pictured in viral news? No, that's not true.

Update: An earlier version of this story claimed, "Poor Dog Falls Into Canal And Fights For Life Until Group Of Dolphins Save Him In Miraculous Effort". The story was later found to be false and misreported.

A story about a group of dolphins saving a dog that was drowning went viral with several news sites reporting it. However, it has been found that the story is anything but true. It was reported as fake news. Initially, it was reportad that the dog, "Turbo escaped from the yard of his owner, Cindy Burnett, on Florida's Marco Island, and ended up paddling in a nearby canel that led to the ocean. When Cindy came home and discovered he wasn’t there, she drove around town through the night trying to find him on the street. Turbo had been reported to be missing for 15 hours when neighbors were alerted to his plight by a pod of dolphins, which were swimming with Turbo and splashing loudly. Burnett called the dolphin-aided rescue 'a miracle'."

It was also added that firefighters were able to lift the puppy over the sandbar and return him back to his owners, relatively unharmed. However, the true story is that such an incident never really happened. The image of the brown dog riding on the back of a dolphin is apparently from a short film titled Zeus and Roxanne, which was the work of a Dutch filmmaker, reported fact-checking site lead stories. The viral image was a screengrab from the short film that runs just six minutes. You can watch it here below.

However, we suggest you meet the real turbo here. The report is about how splashing dolphins lead a worried owner to her Doberman who was stranded in a canal.

Irrespective of the reported incident, dolphins are known to be very caring creatures. Lori Marino, one of the world's leading experts on dolphins, explained that dolphins display a startling amount of empathy towards other species. “They’re a very social, very caring species," she explained. “They care for each other in ways that no other species does. So I think when they know that somebody else is in trouble, it’s part of their nature to help." She added that if an animal was beginning to sink, their natural response would be to lift it up to the surface. "That’s what they do when one of their own kind or a dolphin from another species is injured," Marino explained. "And mothers do it for their calves to make sure they come up to the surface in enough time to breathe. So they’re just extending their natural caregiving behavior to another species."

Dubai | Top 10 famous buildings

From massive malls to dazzling skyscrapers, the emirate of Dubai has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a trade hub. Architectural wonders in the city are considered nothing short of a marval worldwide. If you want to take a look at the emirete’s growth in the construction or real estate sector, here is a list of the most famous buildings in Dubai.

MOST FAMOUS BUILDINGS IN DUBAI

For decades, most of Dubai’s buildings were low and mid-rise structures. But that changed with the discovery of oil in the 1960s. The UAE used its newfound wealth to put itself on the map as a luxury tourist destination. Now, the city is home to magnificent feats of architecture such as the first 7-star hotel – Burj Al Arab and the world’s tallest building – Burj Khalifa.

BURJ KHALIFA

Emaar’s Burj Khalifa takes the top spot for famous places in Dubai for a good reason. Rising 2,716.5 ft. above ground level, the 160-storey iconic tower is the tallest building in the world. Excavation for the project began in 2004 and the building officially opened to the public in 2010.

The skyscraper is an accurate representation of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to improve Dubai’s status as a globally acclaimed tourist destination. The fact that it’s located in Downtown Dubai, the city’s hottest tourist hub, only adds to its value.

As the tallest free-standing structure in the world, Burj Khalifa is a valuable addition to the emirate’s real estate and tourism landscape. Apart from its status as a popular landmark, it serves as a mixed-use building. Those living in Burj Khalifa’s luxury apartments have access to amenities like a swimming pool, gym facilities, sauna and steam rooms.

BURJ AL ARAB

With its unique shape, the 321-metre tall Burj Al Arab quickly became one of the city’s most recognisable buildings upon completion. Its construction officially began in 1994. It took two years to create the island that the hotel sits on and three years to build the structure itself. It is estimated that the project engaged more than 2,000 workers at most times. In addition, over 250 designers from Dubai, the US and UK were part of the master plan.

Burj Al Arab is 14 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris and is almost 280 metres offshore. Guests can access it via a curving bridge that connects the standalone island to the mainland.

Its duplex suites offer astounding views of the Arabian Gulf. One of the units, the Royal Suite, features a full-sized jacuzzi, cinema room, master bathrooms and even a library. As a self-styled 7-star hotel, it certainly lives up to its name as one of the most luxurious hotels in Dubai. There are loads of things to do in the Burj Al Arab to keep guests entertained.
DUBAI WORLD TRADE CENTRE

Historically known as the Sheikh Rashid Tower, the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has played a vital role in the growth of the city’s business tourism and trade since its inauguration in 1979. Located adjacent to Sheikh Zayed Road in the heart of the emirate’s financial district, DWTC is a purpose-built tower meant for exhibitions and conventions.

This was also the tallest building in the UAE from 1979 to 1999. While it no longer retains this title, the complex is still seen as a monument to the expansion of international trade in the Middle East. The World Trade Centre’s importance to the country’s history is apparent considering it is also featured on the AED 100 currency note in the UAE.

The DWTC building is a mixed-use development that covers over 1.3 million sq.ft. of event and exhibition space. Additionally, it has residential properties, including serviced apartments and duplexes. There are several apartments for rent in the World Trade Centre that come with benefits like a swimming pool, jacuzzis and facilities for differently-abled guests.
CAYAN TOWER

If you saw Cayan Tower and did a double-take, you aren’t alone. The tower’s eye-popping twisted shape is enough to make anyone take out their phone and start taking pictures. Standing 307 metres tall, the building’s impressive helical shape sets it apart from other skyscrapers in Dubai Marina.

All of its 75 floors were designed according to the same plan. However, each level is rotated 1.2 degrees clockwise from the one below it. The result is that the building turns at 90 degrees over its entire length.

Apart from being a visual masterpiece, Cayan Tower’s unique helix shape has a practical purpose. Interestingly, the curved design keeps the interior protected from direct sunlight while reducing the impact of strong winds.

Located in Dubai Marina, Cayan Tower is one of the tallest residential buildings in Dubai. Available as furnished and unfurnished units, flats for rent in Cayan Tower come with a host of benefits like swimming pool access and a 24-hour concierge service.

JUMEIRAH EMIRATES TOWERS

By now, you might have realised that symmetry isn’t exactly what architects always envision while creating some of Dubai’s most famous buildings. Jumeirah Emirates Towers is one of them. The structure features two towers, one of which is taller than the other. The towers have a distinct equilateral triangular shape and a covering of silver aluminium panels with copper and silver reflective glass.

Jumeirah Emirates Towers is located on Sheikh Zayed Road in the centre of the city’s business district between the Dubai International Convention Centre and Exhibition Halls and DIFC Dubai. Construction of the towers commenced in 1996, with the hotel officially opening to the public in the year 2000.

Built according to traditional Islamic themes, the structure features a 309m hotel tower and 355m office tower. A central podium known as The Boulevard connects the buildings.

Featuring two towers with identical designs, JW Marriott Marquis is another famous structure in Dubai. Built on a seven-storey podium, the buildings includes 1,608 hotel rooms. The 72-storey towers overlook the iconic Business Bay and Burj Khalifa. JW Marriott Marquis also has 15 award-winning F&B outlets, a business centre, rooftop bar, retail outlets, health club, gym, swimming pool, meeting rooms and an expansive banquet hall.

The structure’s design depicts a date palm, as was intended by Archgroup Consultants, the firm that designed the project. The first building of the twin-tower skyscraper was officially completed in 2013 while the other was finalised in 2014. The hotel held the distinction of being the tallest hotel in the world till 2018.

JUMEIRAH BEACH HOTEL

One of the most iconic building designs in Dubai is that of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The structure’s signature design is hard to miss. Depicting a cresting wave, the structure made a splash with onlookers when it opened in 1997. Despite its sweeping form, it is still massively tall, with a height of 341 ft.

The 26-storey structure stands 104 m high and 275 m long. Moreover, blue-plated glass gives the project a surreal fluidity, much like its inspiration – the breaking wave.

One of many Jumeirah hotels in Dubai, the Jumeirah Beach Hotel was designed by Atkins, the mastermind behind the Dubai Opera. The building has a prime location on the beach with visitors having access to over 33,800 metres of sandy shore.

PRINCESS TOWER

Another former tallest building in Dubai is the Princess Tower. Developed by Tameer Holding Investment, the 414-metre residential tower has 101 floors and six basement levels.

The famous tower in Dubai was once recognised by the Guinness World Records and the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats (CTBUH) as the tallest residential building in the world when it was completed in 2012. While the structure does not retain the status, it still evokes an air of awe.

The Princess Tower houses 763 residential units, including duplexes, penthouses, 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments. It is alsp one of the popular buildings to buy duplexes in Dubai.

ATLANTIS THE PALM

Atlantis, The Palm is the crown jewel of Palm Jumeirah. It secured Dubai’s position as a leading resort destination when it opened back in 2008 as the first luxury hotel on the man-made archipelago. The resort’s look is based on the mythical Atlantis with a few Arabic elements visible in the architecture. Renting in Atlantis The Palm might be a bit pricy, but well worth the expense.

The famous building in Dubai features around 1,500 rooms in two accommodation wings — including the West and East Tower that are connected via the Royal Bridge Suite. Apart from lavish accommodations, the place is home to the Aquaventure Waterpark and the popular Lost Chambers Aquarium that features more than 65,000 marine species, including stingrays and sharks.

THE DUBAI MALL

Spread across 5.9 million sq.ft. – the size of more than 50 football fields, The Dubai Mall is one of the largest malls in the world. A flagship mega-project by Emaar Properties, The Dubai Mall opened in 2008 in Downtown Dubai and is located adjacent to Burj Khalifa. It fast became the city’s most visited entertainment destinations and has an annual turnover of 80 million visitors.

Apart from its size and 1,300+ retail outlets, the mall is home to the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo. It also features a 250-room luxury hotel, an Olympic-sized ice rink, two anchor department stores and over 200 F&B outlets. You will also find a Reel Cinemas multiplex at the second level – featuring 26 screens.

Colors | Facts And Worksheets

Colour, or color, is a property of light as seen by people. The international spelling of the word is colour, the word color is used in American English. “Primary colours” can be mixed to make the other colours. Red, yellow, and blue are the three traditional primary colours. The primary colours for television screens and computer monitors are red, green, and blue. Printers use magenta, yellow, and cyan as their primary colours. They also use black.

See the fact file below for more information on the colors or alternatively, you can download our 22-page Colors worksheet pack to utilise within the classroom or home environment.

Key Facts & Information
Colorful Colors

  • The world is full of light. Visible light is made of seven wavelength groups. These are the colors you see in a rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
  • Within the visible light of the electromagnetic spectrum are still more wavelengths. Each wavelength is perceived by our eyes as a different color.
  • The reddish colors are the long wavelengths. The greenish colors are the mid-size wavelengths. The bluish colors are the short wavelengths.
  • Red, orange, and yellow are warm colors, while violet and blue are cool colors. Green is said to be the most neutral color.
  • Warm colors make a room feel warm, while cool colors make a room feel cool.
  • Warm colors make the room seem smaller because the walls feel closer while cool colors make the walls feel further away which makes it feel larger.
  • Primary colors are blue, red, and yellow. These are pure colors that have no component other than themselves.
  • Secondary colors are orange, green, and purple. These are composed of the primary colors on either side of it on the color wheel. For example: Orange = red+yellow, Green = blue+yellow, Purple = blue+red.
  • Tertiary colors are orange-red, orange-yellow, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-purple, and red-purple. Tertiary colors have more of one color than the other.
  • Hue is another name for the word color, and value describes the darkness or lightness of a color.
  • Black is the absence of color and is therefore not a color. White is the blending of all colors and is a color.
  • Most people see color very clearly, but there are some people who are color-blind.

Psychology of Colors

  • Several ancient cultures, including the Egyptians and Chinese, practiced chromotherapy, or the use of colors to heal.
  • Chromotherapy is sometimes referred to as light therapy or colorology and is still used today as a holistic or alternative treatment.
  • According to some studies, there are four psychological primary colours – red, blue, yellow, and green.
  • They relate respectively to the body, the mind, the emotions, and the essential balance between these three.
  • Red (Physical) – It is a powerful colour. It denotes physical courage, strength, warmth, energy, and also defiance, aggression, visual impact, and strain.
  • Blue (Intellect) – It is a soothing color. It denotes intelligence, communication, trust, efficiency, serenity, duty, logic, coolness, reflection, but also coldness, aloofness, and lack of emotion.
  • Yellow (Emotional) – This wavelength is stimulating. It symbolizes extraversion, confidence, self-esteem, optimism, but also fear, emotional fragility, and depression.
  • Green (Balance) – It promotes rest. This color denotes harmony, balance, refreshment, universal love, restoration, reassurance, environmental awareness, equilibrium, and peace.
  • Researchers have suggested that color associations may have been formulated early in human history when man associated dark blue with night, and therefore, passivity and bright yellow with sunlight and arousal.” (Grossman & Wisenblit, 1999, pg. 2)

Study of Colors

  • One study found that warm-colored placebo pills were reported as more effective than cool-colored placebo pills.
  • Also, other evidence has suggested that installing blue-colored streetlights can lead to reduced crime in those areas.
  • Researchers also discovered that the color red causes people to react with greater speed and force, something that might prove useful during athletic activities.
  • Further, historical data found that sports teams in mostly black uniforms are likely to receive penalties and that students were more likely to associate negative qualities with a player wearing a black uniform.
  • According to Gender Schema Theory, once children recognize their own gender, they actively seek out gender-related information and integrate that information into their developing concept of gender which resulted to:
  • We dress boys in blue clothes
  • We dress girls in pink clothes
