Inadequate use of toilets directly leads to high rates of diseases and deaths in India. About one-fourth of the world's population in India is living with inadequate toilets. Also, 600 million people in India have to defecate in the open (UNICEF 2012). Inadequacy or non-use of toilets reduces India's GDP by at least 6.4 per cent annually (WSP 2011, Chambers and von Medeija 2013). Despite a thorough focus on cleanliness efforts, the status of assessors of inadequate sanitation remains poor.
This article uses spatial analysis techniques to show the diversity of toilet use at the district level. The test for spatial autocorrelation also suggests that there is a cluster of low sanitation in districts where the mortality rate is below five years of age. At the same time, the spatial interval model is also working against the insistence of spatial constraints even after the detection of socio-economic standards of toilets and mutual institutional relations. The status of these clusters and descriptive forces at the district level reflects processes not authorized by state level analyzes
